The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Make Spells and Chameleon Clothing

  • 1 of 9: Now that your character is a major combat force who can soultrap as easily as he can swing a sword, it's time to concentrate on magic development.
  • 2 of 9: See the Spellmaking Tips to learn how to gain access to spellmaking altars, and what spells are good to make at them.
  • 3 of 9: It's particularly important to make practice spells for all the magical schools and use them to practice up your magic skills. Conjuration is especially useful to do this with right away.
  • 4 of 9: Also, be sure to make the Restore Attribute, Frenzy, and combo Charm/Fortify Mercantile spells.
  • 5 of 9: After you make the Frenzy spell, try it out on all the generic mage guys wandering around the university and watch the fun! This works well by itself or in combination with the Fun With Guards routine.
  • 6 of 9: At some point during all this, you should try sneakily picking open the locked display case in the tower's lobby area. See the Lockpicking Tips if you need help with that.
  • 7 of 9: Take the grand soul gems from the display case and go enchant with the two that have grand souls in them. I advise making a weapon (perhaps a permanent bound dagger) with a Fire Damage 17 points for 3 sec. effect, and another weapon with an Absorb Health 13 points for 2 sec. effect. Those will be very useful in upcoming combats.
  • 8 of 9: And now it's time to make the endlessly fun and useful Chameleon Clothing. See the Enchanting Tips to find out how to get several grand-level souls to enchant with and how to make the Chameleon Clothing. (Or you can put it off until you're level 17 and can get top-quality sigil stones from Oblivion worlds.)
  • 9 of 9: If you do the black soul gem thing, you can use some of them to enchant weapons as described above if you could never get that display case open.
