The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

The Pirates of Black Rock

  • 1 of 16: To find these ghostly pirates, go to Black Rock Caverns at location 23 on the Colovian Highlands map.
  • 2 of 16: After exploring the Black Rock Caverns area, use either of the doors that lead to the Main Chamber area and thoroughly explore it.
  • 3 of 16: There's a hidden turn handle on the floor in the Main Chamber's biggest room.
  • 4 of 16: It's about halfway along the SE wall, behind a large rock.
  • 5 of 16: When you turn it, it'll glow and disappear.
  • 6 of 16: That has two effects, one of which is to block the small SW room that has an exit door in it.
  • 7 of 16: So use the exit door that's along the main room's NW wall.
  • 8 of 16: As soon as you reenter the Black Rock Caverns area, you should notice that there are now two Black Rock Pirate ghosts nearby. (Note that they'll start fighting the bandits in the room if you didn't kill them earlier.)
  • 9 of 16: Kill and loot the ghostly pirates, then check the SE corner of the room for another turn handle on the floor.
  • 10 of 16: Return to the Main Chamber the same way you left it, then search the floor along the NE wall for a new trap door that leads to the Lost Black Rock Chasm area.
  • 11 of 16: In the chasm, make your way down the long, twisting passage until you come to a dead end at a rock wall.
  • 12 of 16: Look to the right of the rock wall for a turn handle that will lower it for you.
  • 13 of 16: In the large cave room beyond is the old, ruined pirate ship plus the rest of its crew, including the captain.
  • 14 of 16: After you kill and loot them, search the entire area for treasure, including several "boss" chests with good leveled loot.
  • 15 of 16: Some easy-to-miss treasures include:

    * the jewels next to the sack on the large bowl-like thing that's near the cluster of three treasure chests
    * a treasure chest on the ship up near its wheel
    * one more chest on the ground around behind the ship's back end
    * a bottle of rare wine inside an overturned barrel close to the passage that leads back out
  • 16 of 16: NOTE: When you're ready to leave, you'll have to hit a turn handle near the rock wall to lower it again.
