The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Lost Abagarlas
of 15: There's a long-lost underground Ayleid ruin just NE of the Imperial City. It's in Sideways Cave, which is at location 2 on the Heartlands map.
of 15: In the cave, find the large chasm room and drop carefully down into the huge hole. (You can get back out by jumping up the "ramp" of rocks in the SW corner.)
of 15: Explore onward from there until you reach the NE corner of the area.
of 15: There, a secret door will open as you approach, revealing an Ayleid-style door that'll take you to the Hidden Lake area.
of 15: You'll still be in what looks like a standard cave, but you'll notice bits and pieces of Ayleid architecture as you proceed.
of 15: When you come to a large cave room with a stone circle of Ayleid architecture near its center, start looking for Ayleid treasure chests.
of 15: One's inside the stone circle, another is behind some rubble in the NW corner, and another is on a stone ring SE of the circle.
of 15: Also, look for the Ayleid tablet that's on the ground next to the water near the NW corner. It has a hasty translation on it that indicates that the Daedra Lord Meridia used "root power" and floods to drive the inhabitants away.
of 15: The door to the main Lost Abagarlas region is at the SW end of the same large area.
of 15: Between skeletons at the very beginning of the area is another tablet that indicates Meridia came to spread terror.
of 15: After going up some stairs, turn left (north) and head around until you reach the east-side area where several closed iron gates will automatically open at your approach.
of 15: The room beyond has a stone throne you can sit on, plus the body of the scholar who was doing tablet translations a bit beyond that.
of 15: Between the dead scholar and two Ayleid treasure chests is the third and final translation tablet.
of 15: Putting the messages together, it would seem that the ancient Ayleid settlers "awoke" Meridia and earned her wrath by coming across some old shrine of hers, or something like that.
of 15: Unfortunately, you don't get to see the shrine, but can only take a nearby passage to a door that leads back to the Hidden Lake area, from which you can backtrack along your earlier route to get back outside.
