The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

How can I get these gates open?

  • 1 of 12: Looking through the one on the left, you can see a lever a ways beyond it.
  • 2 of 12: However, you can't even come close to reaching it, and levers can't be activated by spells or arrows.
  • 3 of 12: But other things can.
  • 4 of 12: Notice that there's a quiver on the structure between the two gates that contains two silver arrows.
  • 5 of 12: Two gates and two arrows. What else is there two of around here?
  • 6 of 12: There are two statues against the north wall nearby.
  • 7 of 12: What's peculiar about them?
  • 8 of 12: You may not notice it if you have the Night-Eye spell in effect, but each statue has a glowing blue gem in its forehead.
  • 9 of 12: So put two and two and two together to get the answer.
  • 10 of 12: Shoot arrows (of any kind) at the gems in the statues' foreheads.
  • 11 of 12: There aren't any spare bows lying around here, so you'll have to go get one if you don't have any. Spells like Flare won't work here -- only arrows fired from bows.
  • 12 of 12: TIPS: The gems can be a bit tricky to hit, so you may want to jump up onto the thing that the two silver arrows are on and shoot from there. Also, don't use a powerful magic bow if you can avoid it, since charge is taken from it every time you fire an arrow (not just when you hit an enemy).
