The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Fin Gleam

  • 1 of 12: There's a special glass armor helmet with two very useful enchantments on it that you can find in a certain place no matter what level you are.
  • 2 of 12: The helmet is called Fin Gleam, and it's in an underwater spot a ways west of Anvil.
  • 3 of 12: The first step in finding it is to travel to the large island that's west of Anvil and that is shown on the world map (and on my Gold Coast map).
  • 4 of 12: Fin Gleam is next to a skeleton which is next to some large underwater rocks a bit west of the approximate center of that island.
  • 5 of 12: The helm and skeleton can be hard to find due to the extreme darkness that goes along with being underwater, so I made a map to help guide you to the right location.
  • 6 of 12: What you can do is swim around on the surface of the water until the local area map is revealed to the point where you can find the rock formation on it that Fin Gleam is next to. (Cross-reference with the map I provide above.)
  • 7 of 12: Swim over to where you're directly above that rock formation, then save your game and dive straight down.
  • 8 of 12: If you still can't find Fin Gleam, you can turn your room lights off and use the Options / Video menu to turn the game's brightness setting to the max. That should help you see it once you're near the ocean floor.
  • 9 of 12: As soon as you get Fin Gleam, put it on since one of its useful enchantments is Water Breathing, and you're probably about to start taking drown damage. Also, it has a Night-Eye effect that will make it far easier to see underwater (and in dark buildings and dungeons).
  • 10 of 12: It's a good idea for you to go for Fin Gleam as soon as you can, since it isn't leveled at all, and it can be of great use to any character.
  • 11 of 12: Another of its uses is to allow you to take refuge underwater during combat. This will make it impossible for enemies to hit you with spells, and very hard for them to hit you with arrows. Many caves and Ayleid ruins have deep pools of water in them, so watch for opportunites to use them to your advantage.
  • 12 of 12: If an enemy comes into the water to get you, he'll be restricted to melee attacks. Also, he'll have to frequently surface for air, which gives you time to escape or heal up. If you can lure him to a spot where he can't swim straight up to the surface, he'll probably drown.
