The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Zombie and Rat Tips
of 13: As you approach the zombie, several rats will run toward you.
of 13: They're intent on getting away from the zombie, and won't pay any attention to you. You could just let them go, or you could quickly kill them for skill practice and rat meat.
of 13: When the zombie finishes with the rat he's attacking, he'll come after you.
of 13: He hits quite a bit harder than the rats do, and has a lot more health, so you'll want to quickly strike him, dodge his blow, strike him again, and so on until he's down.
of 13: Or if you don't mind spending some time on this, you can build up your Sneak skill and use it to help you kill or sneak past the zombie.
of 13: What you do is go into Sneak mode, take off anything you're wearing on your feet, put away your torch if you have one out, then sneak slowly down the passage that leads to the zombie.
of 13: When the scaredy-rats start running toward you, turn around and sneak back the way you came.
of 13: Go to a nearby dark corner and use the Auto Move key so you'll constantly sneak-walk into the corner without having to hold any keys down.
of 13: Hopefully, the zombie won't see you, but will instead chase the rats to the nearby door and then just stand there.
of 13: He'll be close enough that you'll be getting lots of Sneak increases from your sneak-walking.
of 13: Wait until your Sneak skill is at least 25, then save your game and decide if you want to kill the zombie or just sneak on down the passage he came from and leave him behind.
of 13: If you want to kill him, get a weapon out, sneak up next to him, and hit him to do some good sneak-attack damage. If that doesn't kill him instantly, quickly exit Sneak mode and use the above-mentioned strike-and-dodge routine to finish him off.
of 13: Another benefit of building up your Sneak skill here is that you can use it to sneak up on some of the rats in the areas ahead. A single sneak-hit with Renault's katana will kill a rat instantly, even on the highest difficulty setting.
