The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Runaway Notes
1 of 6: A horse you own may abandon you if he's badly injured in combat, or if you ride another horse for some reason (even briefly).
2 of 6: Your horse won't instantly teleport away, but will instead just slowly trot away. If you can find him right after the combat or other-horse riding, you can start riding him again to get him back. (You should also cast healing spells on him if he's injured.)
3 of 6: If he gets away from you, go look in the place where you first got him.
4 of 6: For instance, if Prior Maborel's paint horse leaves you because you took a joyride on a stolen black horse, you can find him in the Weynon Priory's stable later on.
5 of 6: The same thing will happen if you own more than one horse. The last one you rode will follow you around, and the others will return to their points of origin. (They'll all still be yours, and you can go start riding one of them again to make him your currently "active" horse whenever you want to.)
6 of 6: That is, if you haven't installed the "Horse Armor" DLC module and armored your horses. If you have, they'll always stay where you leave them instead of running off. This can be handy as long as you don't forget where they are.
