The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

General Practice Tips

  • 1 of 3: Before you practice a skill, be sure to remove any bonuses you have on it from temporary spells (wait until they wear off) or equipped items (unequip them).
  • 2 of 3: The lower a skill is, the faster it'll go up with practice. If you're wanting to raise a skill partly by buying training and partly by practice, then do all the practicing first. That'll make the training cost more than if you'd done it first, but it's pretty easy to get enough gold to cover it (see the Money-Making Tips).
  • 3 of 3: If you're practicing a skill where you can just leave the game running while you go off and do something else, remember that the game will bring up a window and pause whenever your character reaches the next "landmark" (25, 50, 75, or 100) for the skill being practiced.
