The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Light the Dragonfires

  • 1 of 18: You get this final main quest right after turning the Amulet of Kings over to Martin.
  • 2 of 18: Martin is now following you, so head outside and fast-travel to the Imperial City. (The world map puts a red quest arrow on the Palace area, so it's most expedient to go straight there.)
  • 3 of 18: Just outside the door to the Elder Council Chambers building, you'll meet up with Baurus or Steffan, if either of those guys is still alive.
  • 4 of 18: Go inside and head straight forward into the large, circular council chamber room, where High Chancellor Ocato is awaiting Martin.
  • 5 of 18: When you get a journal entry, approach Ocato to talk to him briefly.
  • 6 of 18: Ocato's official "accepting Martin as the new emperor" speech is interrupted by news that Oblivion gates have opened all over the Imperial City, and Daedra are running around loose in the streets.
  • 7 of 18: After you get a journal entry about escorting Martin to the Temple of the One, you'll be unfrozen and can attack the two dremora who charge into the council chamber.
  • 8 of 18: After the dremora are dead, check their bodies for magic weapons, then run outside with Martin and attack the Daedra who are approaching the council chambers building. (Hang back and hack at Daedra around the edges of the battle as before.)
  • 9 of 18: Check the bodies for some good Daedric equipment, then wait for the Imperial Legionnaires to show up if they haven't already.
  • 10 of 18: TIP: If you're overloaded and want to drop stuff somewhere that you can retrieve it from after the main quest series is over, go drop it back inside the council chambers building. It may disappear if you drop it anywhere else.
  • 11 of 18: When you're ready, follow Martin along into the Temple District.
  • 12 of 18: Quickly turn right and run down the street until you get a journal entry about Mehrunes Dagon already being there.
  • 13 of 18: Run over to Martin to get him to talk to you about that dire subject.
  • 14 of 18: Tell him to follow you, then run right past ol' Dagon on the left side (your left, his right) and quickly enter the temple through the door on the left. (Check your local area map if you need help finding the door.)
  • 15 of 18: After Martin talks to you in the temple, stand and watch as he somehow turns himself into a gigantic gold dragon to fight Dagon.
  • 16 of 18: Martin will win, but will then be transformed into an inanimate giant statue. After the cut-scene, you'll have to inform Ocato that Martin is gone.
  • 17 of 18: NOTE: This also means that *every* Oblivion gate throughout the land is closed forever, so I hope you weren't counting on visiting any Oblivion worlds after this -- it won't be possible.
  • 18 of 18: On a brighter note, Ocato will officially proclaim you the Champion of Cyrodiil and say that some Imperial Dragon armor has been ordered for you. This is added to your quest list, but that's just to remind you to go pick it up in two weeks' time (in the Prison District's armory) -- the main quest series is over!
