The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
How can I get the diary back if she steals it first?
of 9: Fortunately, she won't run back to Cristophe and turn it over right away, even though she technically could if it's not 3 am yet.
of 9: So ask around to find out where she lives. She might not be smart enough to hide the diary somewhere else.
of 9: Try asking a beggar about her.
of 9: Instead of waiting for them to start roaming the streets during the daytime, you could head back to the Waterfront area and talk to Puny Ancus again. He doesn't mind you waking him up all the time.
of 9: Bribe him five more gold coins to learn that Methredhel lives nearby, and she usually sleeps from sunrise until noon.
of 9: In fact, Methredhel's house is the one right next to the Abandoned Shack that your meeting area is behind, so lockpick your way in and look around for the diary.
of 9: TIP: Wait until afternoon (4 pm or so) so that the house will be deserted, making sneaking around inside it unnecessary.
of 9: As soon as you're inside the house, turn left and unlock the chest called Methredhel's Chest.
of 9: The diary is inside, so grab it and leave.
