The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Dagon Shrine
of 20: You can report your progress to Jauffre at the Cloud Ruler Temple if you want, but it's not necessary -- you can just go straight to the Lake Arrius Caverns.
of 20: However, the game won't let you fast-travel there, so you'll have to strike out on foot (or on horse).
of 20: The cavern entrance is at location 20 on the Jerall and Valus Mountains map if you want to use my maps to see how to get there and what all to watch for on the way.
of 20: Inside, find the Doorkeeper guy and give him the pass phrase (which your character automatically knows) so that he'll open the door that he's guarding.
of 20: When you talk to Harrow just a bit past that door, you're going to have to make a decision as to how to proceed through the shrine area.
of 20: Follow Harrow along until you reach the spot in the shrine where the cult leader, Mankar Camoran, is giving a victorious speech about getting the Amulet of Kings.
of 20: Just wait and listen until he teleports away and you're told to "advance."
of 20: That means go up onto the altar platform where Camoran was, so do so.
of 20: You'll be told to sacrifice the Argonian who's lying helplessly on the sacrificial altar next to the giant statue.
of 20: Naturally, that's not a good thing to do. However, if you don't, everyone will turn hostile and start attacking you.
of 20: Then again, you need to steal the nearby Mysterium Xarxes book before you go, and that'll turn everyone hostile, too.
of 20: So you might as well click on the Argonian guy and choose to free him, then go grab the Xarxes book and make a run for the stairs.
of 20: The gate leading to the living quarters area is now open, so go through it and enter the living quarters.
of 20: Equip your standard weapon and armor if you haven't already, then run through the living quarters area until you reach the door to the Lake Arrius Caverns in the SE section of it.
of 20: If you're a good fighter, you can then stand your ground and slay all comers, retreating to the caverns if you have to in order to heal up.
of 20: Once you're in the caverns, find the large handle on the wall in the camp-out area -- it opens a secret rock wall door that leads back to the part of the caverns you were in earlier (you know, the one with the exit).
of 20: You should then probably leave and take the stolen book to Jauffre at the Cloud Ruler Temple right away, and come back to finish off the cultists (especially that gold-grabbing Harrow) later at your leisure.
of 20: Jauffre says to take the book to Martin, so enter the Great Hall and find him sitting at a table.
of 20: Talk to him to hand over the evil book and finish this quest.
of 20: NOTE: From now on, a lot more random Oblivion gates will be open, and people in some cities will reveal themselves as Mythic Dawn agents and attack you and/or the local guards. Loot the agents (and their houses) after they're dead.
