The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

A Rat Problem

  • 1 of 17: Talk to Azzan about "Contract" and "Rats" to get this quest.
  • 2 of 17: If you played Morrowind, you'll probably remember that one of the earliest and easiest Fighters Guild quests was to help a woman named Thelas out with a rat problem. Well, this quest is both very similar and very different.
  • 3 of 17: Go talk to Arvena Thelas in her house (a ways west and north of the Fighters Guild building) about rats to learn that she doesn't have a rat infestation that needs ending, but instead has pet rats that something keeps killing!
  • 4 of 17: Head down to the basement to find a starving mountain lion attacking the pet rats.
  • 5 of 17: Even if you like cats better than rats, you'll need to kill the mountain lion in order to progress on this quest.
  • 6 of 17: If you look around, you'll find the partly boarded-over hole in the basement wall that the lion used to get in.
  • 7 of 17: However, you can't do anything about that directly. After looting the basement of wine and cheese, report back to Thelas to get an idea on how to proceed.
  • 8 of 17: She wants you to find a hunter named Pinarus Inventius and see if he can help you hunt down the local mountain lions.
  • 9 of 17: His house is a very short distance SW of Thelas' house, so go visit him there and talk to him about the lion problem. (If he's not home, you can go out looking for him, using the quest arrow to track him down.)
  • 10 of 17: He'll set off, expecting you to follow him, so do so until he leads you to a spot NW of town and says this is probably where the lions are.
  • 11 of 17: Prepare for battle and head south to find four starving mountain lions that you need to kill with Inventius' help.
  • 12 of 17: When they're all dead, talk to Inventius again and then return to Thelas to report the news.
  • 13 of 17: She'll say that there's yet another mountain lion menacing her precious rats! This is getting a bit tedious.
  • 14 of 17: Kill the starving mountain lion in the basement and report back to Thelas again.
  • 15 of 17: She'll say that she suspects her neighbor, Quill-Weave, of somehow being responsible for the starving lions finding their way into her basement.
  • 16 of 17: When you report to Thelas, you can either tell her that Quill-Weave was responsible or deny it.
  • 17 of 17: If you tell her Quill-Weave is guilty, she'll give you a +1 to your Speechcraft skill along with your cash reward. If you say Quill-Weave is innocent, you won't get the Speechcraft increase, but you can get a +1 to Acrobatics by talking to Quill-Weave again.
