How can I get the staff for free?
1 of 8: You could steal it if you know where it is.
2 of 8: Try talking to Arenim's wife, Erissare, about it.
3 of 8: Get her disposition up to 65 to get her to tell you that the staff is in a locked chest in the basement, and the key is in Soris' desk.
4 of 8: Or just skip her and go get the key from the desk without being told.
5 of 8: The desk is upstairs, in Soris Arenim's Private Quarters area.
6 of 8: With the key in your inventory, you can open the basement door without having to sneakily lockpick it.
7 of 8: Find the locked "Drawers" container with three books on top of it.
8 of 8: Arenim's key opens it, too, so grab the Mages Staff from it.
