The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Cheydinhal Recommendation
of 15: Speak to Falcar in the Cheydinhal Mages' Guild about "Recommendation" to get this quest.
of 15: He wants you to retrieve some burdensome ring from a locked well, and sends you to Deetsan (also in the guild building) for the well's key.
of 15: When you talk to Deetsan about "Recommendation," she won't dare speak to you about it if Falcar's around.
of 15: Wait until afternoon, when Deetsan is upstairs and Falcar is downstairs.
of 15: She'll tell you that Falcar may be trying to kill you via trickery, and you'll get the Buoyancy spell along with the well key.
of 15: Exit the Mages Guild and find the well behind the building.
of 15: Cast the Buoyancy spell (if your Alteration skill is high enough) and save your game before entering the well.
of 15: Go forward and then to the right to find Vidkun, the missing apprentice who was sent after the ring before you were.
of 15: Search Vidkun's body to find the Ring of Burden, which weighs 150 pounds!
of 15: After you take the ring and get a journal update, drop the ring before swimming for the exit ladder.
of 15: Return to the guild and talk to Deetsan about your recommendation to learn that Falcar's gone, but he may have already written out your recommendation.
of 15: Head down to the basement area and look around in the western room.
of 15: There's no recommendation anywhere, but if you pick open the locked drawers, you'll find two intriguing items called black soul gems.
of 15: Take them to Deetsan to get your recommendation.
of 15: NOTE: The presence of black soul gems in Falcar's room is disturbing because it shows that he's been secretly dabbling in necromancy, which is strictly forbidden by Mages Guild law.
