The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

How and when should I attempt to steal the ring?

  • 1 of 17: Wait until after midnight, since the countess will usually be in bed by that time.
  • 2 of 17: Then use the tip about finding the secret passage in the basement.
  • 3 of 17: Enter the basement via the door in the County Hall's SE corner, then look around for some sort of secret passage or lever.
  • 4 of 17: After moving around in all the areas you can, check the local map for a hint as to where a secret passage might be.
  • 5 of 17: Try the south wall.
  • 6 of 17: There's an open-topped barrel there with a lever inside of it.
  • 7 of 17: Use the lever to open the secret door, then move along the passage past it to come to a locked door.
  • 8 of 17: Pick its lock and go through it to reach the secret torture chamber you've heard about.
  • 9 of 17: Look around the place for valuable things to steal, then find the locked door that leads into the Lords' Manor Private Quarters.
  • 10 of 17: Past that, find the lever on the wall that opens another secret door, then head up the stairs to reach a small room with another locked door.
  • 11 of 17: When you're through that door, turn left and head straight north to reach the locked door to the countess' bedroom.
  • 12 of 17: Her jewelry box is on the table just to the right of the bed, in the very NW corner of the room.
  • 13 of 17: However, if she isn't in bed, the ring you're after won't be in the jewelry box.
  • 14 of 17: Sneak back into the secret passages and wait an hour or so (you can use the local and world maps to see what time it is), then sneak back into the bedroom and see if she's in bed yet.
  • 15 of 17: If so, sneak over to the jewelry box, pick its lock, and take everything that's in it.
  • 16 of 17: Or pickpocket the sleeping countess to get the jewelry box's key so you won't have to pick its lock.
  • 17 of 17: Once you have the ring, sneak back out the way you came in.
