The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Accidents Happen

  • 1 of 15: Talk to Valtieri about "Contract" again to get this one.
  • 2 of 15: You're to arrange for a guy living in Bruma named Baenlin to have a very particular fatal "accident."
  • 3 of 15: Travel to Bruma and find Baenlin's house, which is right across the street from the local Fighters Guild and Mages Guild.
  • 4 of 15: If you asked your fellow Brotherhood about "Contract" before you left the sanctuary, at least one of them will have advised you to find another way into the house besides the front door.
  • 5 of 15: Look around in the back of the house to find that you can enter the basement (after you pick the basement door's lock).
  • 6 of 15: Rob the place if you want to, then head up the stairs to find the locked door that leads into the house.
  • 7 of 15: Wait until after 8 pm, then sneak into the house and straight ahead to the stairs.
  • 8 of 15: At the top of the stairs, turn right and look over the railing to see if Baenlin's in his chair. (Don't worry if your Sneak mode "eye" cursor turns solid -- you probably haven't really been seen.)
  • 9 of 15: If he is, head into the bedroom on the right and look for the secret door.
  • 10 of 15: It's in the east wall, to the right of the desk.
  • 11 of 15: Push it open, then find the mounted head fastenings on one wall.
  • 12 of 15: Click on them and choose to loosen them in order to kill Baenlin.
  • 13 of 15: Sneak back out the way you came in, then return to the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary in Cheydinhal.
  • 14 of 15: Talk to Valtieri to get the regular gold reward plus the bonus reward of a nice magical dagger called Sufferthorn.
  • 15 of 15: NOTE: Gromm (Baenlin's manservant) may attack you on sight later on. If so, you can lead him to some guards to get them to dispose of him for you.
