The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Burd's Way

  • 1 of 10: You'll find Captain Burd tweeting around in Castle Bruma's Great Hall or in the barracks that's accessible via a door in the Great Hall.
  • 2 of 10: He mentions someone named Jearl returning from a trip recently, so look around for him or her.
  • 3 of 10: There's a house labeled "Jearl's House" in the SW corner of Bruma's housing area. (The map also shows a red quest arrow on it, so you know it's the right place.)
  • 4 of 10: The house's door is always locked, but it's fairly easy to pick, and you can probably do so in Sneak mode without being seen.
  • 5 of 10: NOTE: You could instead talk to people in town to learn more about Jearl in order to get enough "probable cause" for Burd to authorize a search of her house, but that's way more trouble than it's worth.
  • 6 of 10: The lock on the trap door to the basement is a bit tougher, but you should be able to open it.
  • 7 of 10: In the basement, look for a table with a book and a scroll on it.
  • 8 of 10: The scroll is called "Jearl's Orders," and it's what you need to take back to Jauffre at the Cloud Ruler Temple.
  • 9 of 10: When you do, he'll say you need to track down and kill both spies.
  • 10 of 10: You'll find them in the rune stone area a short way SE of the fortress after 7 pm, so go down there and kill them off. (If you didn't already find and kill them in Jearl's house, that is.)
