The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
When does that happen and what should I do when it does?
1 of 6: You may have a *very* long wait, since the necromancers will only try to use the altar on a day when spectral light is shining straight down on it.
2 of 6: When you finally get to a day when the light is shining down on the altar, hide somewhere in Sneak mode and watch until a "Worm Anchorite" comes out of the cave.
3 of 6: Quickly attack the Anchorite and kill him.
4 of 6: Grab a handwritten note from his body that gets you a journal entry, then raid the altar for a grand soul gem.
5 of 6: TIP: You can transform that grand soul gem into a black soul gem yourself if you want to by casting Soul Trap on the altar while the grand soul gem is still on it. Then you can soul-trap and kill one of the necromancers in the cave to get a grand-level soul.
6 of 6: You could instead enter the Dark Fissure cave at any time and find the Worm Anchorite standing around nearby, but you'd probably have to fight some other necromancers and their conjured undead, too (and you won't get a grand or black soul gem).
