The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Turning a Blind Eye

  • 1 of 20: This quest is added to your journal right after Methredhel tells you where to meet the Gray Fox.
  • 2 of 20: Travel to Bruma and find Helvius Cecia's house near the SE corner of the city.
  • 3 of 20: Talk to Cecia, who's pacing around just outside his house, to learn that the Gray Fox is already inside waiting for you.
  • 4 of 20: Go in and down the stairs to find the Fox sitting on a chair near the fireplace.
  • 5 of 20: Talk to him to get sent to the Temple of the Ancestor Moths (location 22 on the Jerall and Valus Mountains map) to steal a special item called Savilla's Stone.
  • 6 of 20: When you ask the three monks about Savilla's Stone, Brother Holger is the only one who will have that conversation topic stay gold (meaning there's more to tell).
  • 7 of 20: Get his disposition up to 70 and ask about the stone again, then ask where the catacombs are.
  • 8 of 20: After getting his disposition up to 80, ask about the catacombs again to get him to lead you to their entrance and unlock the door.
  • 9 of 20: Save your game right after entering the Temple of the Moth Halls, since the Blind Moth priests in there will be hostile if they detect you. You can either try to sneak by them or kill them off (or some combination of the two).
  • 10 of 20: It should be easy to fight or sneak your way to the door to the Catacombs of the Temple of the Moth area.
  • 11 of 20: Pick the lock on another door a little further along (if you don't have a priest's key) to get to a priest's bunk area.
  • 12 of 20: From there, head NE to find the door to the Caverns of the Moth. It's locked, too, so hopefully you can pick it open if you don't have a prelate's key.
  • 13 of 20: In the caverns, start keeping a careful look-out for tripwires and spikes -- there are a lot of traps in there.
  • 14 of 20: NOTE: If you get trapped in a room with sliding rock doors, use all the pull ropes you can find until one of the doors opens up again.
  • 15 of 20: Make your way NW using one route or another to reach the door to the Shrine of the Moth, which can also be opened with a prelate's key.
  • 16 of 20: Thankfully, this is finally the area with Savilla's Stone in it. Unfortunately, it's guarded by a fairly tough Blind Moth prelate and a dark Welkynd stone.
  • 17 of 20: After getting the stone, take the NE passage that leads to a treasure chest with an interesting Gray-Fox-related bit of info in it.
  • 18 of 20: Near the chest is a ladder you can climb to get back outside.
  • 19 of 20: Go back to Cecia's house in Bruma to find the Gray Fox where you first talked to him.
  • 20 of 20: After you hand over Savilla's Stone, you can ask him about Nocturnal's Cowl if you got the related document from the chest near the secret ladder exit.
