The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Step 7: Return with the Elder Scroll to the Gray Fox
of 11: The fireplace grate you entered the Imperial Guard Quarters through is hopelessly locked, so you'll need to find an alternate exit.
of 11: Start by sneaking up the stairs next to the table you sat at to get the Elder Scroll.
of 11: TIP: Make sure a blind priest isn't descending or about to descend the stairs when you start up. The best way to do this is to wait until one comes down the stairs, then start sneaking up them.
of 11: Looking around on the upper walkway, you'll find a door in the west wall that's hard but possible to pick open.
of 11: Past that door, turn left and sneak carefully to the door to the Moth Priest's Quarters.
of 11: Go all the way around in there to reach the door to the Imperial Battlemage's Chambers.
of 11: Sneak forward until you find a door on your left to lockpick, then sneak through the battlemage's quarters, stealing as much stuff as you can while making your way to the fireplace in the east wall.
of 11: NOTE: If you find it impossible to get this far undetected, you can just run through these areas and dodge combat as long as you don't mind getting a 500-gold bounty.
of 11: You need to click on the floor grate in the battlemage's fireplace to get back into the Old Way area, but save your game first -- the fall from the grate to the floor below is a very long one.
