The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Finishing Up

  • 1 of 13: First, exit and reenter Anvil Castle to see that a throne has been set up for Corvus, indicating that Millona has accepted him back. (If it doesn't happen right away, it will later on.)
  • 2 of 13: Now travel to the Imperial City Waterfront area and return to the good old Garden of Dareloth where you first met Christophe and joined the Thieves Guild.
  • 3 of 13: There'll be a new door there leading to Dareloth's Basement.
  • 4 of 13: Explore it to find the door to Dareloth's house, then go upstairs to find the Guildmaster's Quarters.
  • 5 of 13: And there you have it! Your cool new home-away-from-home, the Thieves Guild!
  • 6 of 13: Cristophe and several other guild members (including the top "fence," Fathis Ules) will hang around the guild building at various times, so remember to look for them there if you can't find them elsewhere.
  • 7 of 13: However, you should never again need Cristophe's (or S'krivva's) bounty removal service thanks to the cool Gray Cowl of Nocturnal that you inherited from the former Gray Fox.
  • 8 of 13: That cowl is a very powerful artifact. Wearing it will constantly fortify your Sneak skill by 25 points, lighten your load by 200 weight units (allowing you to carry much more loot at a time), and put a powerful Detect Life effect on you.
  • 9 of 13: However, putting it on also instantly sets your bounty to 500, your fame to zero, and your infamy to 100. Taking the cowl off will reset all three of those to their former values.
  • 10 of 13: That means you can openly commit crimes of all kinds while wearing the cowl, then take it off in order to make your bounty instantly disappear!
  • 11 of 13: However, you should never put the cowl on or take it off when anyone (especially a guard) can see you. Also, try not to let a guard nab you and force you to resist arrest while you're wearing the cowl, or all the guards will attack you on sight even after you remove it.
  • 12 of 13: If this happens, try yielding to a guard (see the "Arts of Combat" section of the game manual). Even if he accepts your yield, he and other guards may still continue to attack you, especially if you don't have a bounty on you when you yield. If you don't, do something to get a small one, then yield to a guard and choose to pay the fine or go to jail. That should always work, but the game may glitch and continue to make guards hostile.
  • 13 of 13: The fact that people who have very high dispositions toward you will help you fight hostile guards can be used to have a lot of fun. See the Fun With Guards tips, remembering to use the cowl instead of committing a crime to turn the guards hostile.
