The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
How does the Telekinesis spell work in this game?
of 13: Quite differently from how it worked in Morrowind.
of 13: Instead of casting the spell on yourself so you can magically snatch items from farther away, you cast the spell on an item so that you can remotely manipulate it in true telekinetic fashion.
of 13: After you make a Telekinesis spell your currently selected spell, you'll notice that you can now aim at items that aren't within normal reaching distance and see their names, weights and gold values in red print. This indicates that they're too far away for you to pick them up normally, but not too far away to cast your Telekinesis spell on.
of 13: The maximum distance you can stand from an item while still getting its red-print info when aiming at it is determined by your selected Telekinesis spell's range value.
of 13: To actually move an item telekinetically, stand to where you can get the red-print info on it, then cast the Telekinesis spell at it.
of 13: The item will not jump into your inventory, but will instead float around as you move your view around.
of 13: While floating an item, you can use the Use/Attack key to "push" it farther away from you and the Block key to pull it in closer.
of 13: If you pull it in close enough, you can use the Activate key to put the item in your inventory.
of 13: If you hit the Block key while holding down the Use/Attack key, you will throw the item. To simply drop it before the spell wears off, hit the Use/Attack key while holding down the Block key.
of 13: You can use this process to move items to a safe place where you can pick them up normally after the Telekinesis spell wears off.
of 13: The most obvious use for this is to levitate items you want to steal out of view of the people who might see you steal them. Unlike with "grab mode," people don't get upset or report a crime when they see you moving an item with Telekinesis.
of 13: Another telekinetic task is to carefully move items you want away from traps or creatures that are guarding them without having to get too close.
of 13: NOTE: While floating an item around with Telekinesis, you can't take it with you from one region to another, and the item will be dropped if you lose line-of-sight with it (like if you swing it around behind a large pillar) or if you bounce it off of something too hard.
