The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
How can I raise my Fame and Infamy stats?
of 8: Mainly by doing quests.
of 8: Completing most quests will gain you a Fame point, with the obvious exceptions of the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quests, which gain you Infamy points.
of 8: Another way to gain lots of Fame points is to fight in The Arena.
of 8: Once you've done enough Main Quests for random Oblivion gates to start spawning all over the place, you can get one Fame point for every Oblivion gate you close.
of 8: Getting caught committing major crimes (or lots of minor ones) will get you some Infamy points that will stay with you even after your bounty is paid off one way or another.
of 8: Specifically, your Infamy goes up one point every time your bounty reaches the next thousand-gold level. Getting your bounty up to 1000 gold gets you a +1 to Infamy, getting it up to 2000 gets you another +1 to Infamy, etc.
of 8: WARNING: If your Infamy score is larger than your Fame score, you won't be able to use any of the altars in the city chapels. They don't like shady types!
of 8: NOTE: You can reset your Infamy to zero if you install the Knights of the Nine DLC module and complete its first main quest.
