The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Sins of the Father

  • 1 of 16: You have to complete the misc. quest "Legacy Lost" before you can get this one.
  • 2 of 16: Be in Chorrol two or three days after finishing "Legacy Lost" so Fathis Ules can catch up to you there.
  • 3 of 16: When he does, talk to him about "Jemane Family."
  • 4 of 16: NOTE: You may be able to find him in The Oak and Crosier early, but he won't talk to you about this quest until he's ready to.
  • 5 of 16: He'll reveal that the Jemane twins' father was supposed to steal an item and deliver it to him (Ules), but the ogres got it instead.
  • 6 of 16: The ogres are holed up in Redguard Valley Cave (location 33 on the Great Forest map).
  • 7 of 16: The fastest way to get to the ogre chieftain is to drop down into the large central pit in the first cave room and head down the tunnel until it splits.
  • 8 of 16: Take the south tunnel passage and keep going south until you reach the chieftain's room.
  • 9 of 16: Kill him and take the Honorblade of Chorrol from him, then head back out the way you came. (If you're fast or sneaky enough, you'll only have to fight the chieftain.)
  • 10 of 16: You now have two choices for what to do with the blade (besides keeping it and using it).
  • 11 of 16: You can turn it over to Fathis Ules for 1,500 gold.
  • 12 of 16: Or you can go to Castle Chorrol's Great Hall and talk to Laythe Wavrick about the stolen item.
  • 13 of 16: Turn it over to him to get the Escutcheon of Chorrol as a reward. It's by far the best Reflect Damage artifact in the entire game if you're high-level enough to get the best version of it.
  • 14 of 16: Either way, return to Weatherleah and talk to Guilbert to finish the quest.
  • 15 of 16: If you turned the sword in to the castle steward, Guilbert will further reward you with four grand soul gems. (Unfortunately, they only have common souls in them.)
  • 16 of 16: BUG NOTE: Fathis Ules may never return to the Imperial City or offer Thieves Guild bartering services again, even after you achieve the rank of Master Thief. However, that's a small price to pay for the Escutcheon of Chorrol.
