The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

Nothing You Can Possess

  • 1 of 14: In order to start on this quest, you have to get started on "The Collector" and sell Umbacano two Ayleid statues (or three, if you sold the first one you found to him instead of a shop).
  • 2 of 14: Right after you sell him the second one, talk about "Another task."
  • 3 of 14: He'll send you after a certain carved panel in an Ayleid ruin formerly known as the High Fane. (No relation to the High Fane building in Morrowind's Vivec City, we assume.)
  • 4 of 14: Before you enter the ruins, look a ways to the west of the entrance to find a camp with two people and three bedrolls.
  • 5 of 14: The third person is up on a small hill a bit SW of Malada's entrance.
  • 6 of 14: This and Maric's rather suspicious cheerfulness in helping you should clue you in to the fact that he's planning to let you go to all the work of getting the panel Umbacano wants, after which he'll take it from you by force.
  • 7 of 14: Once that's settled one way or another, enter the ruins and start looking around for the panel.
  • 8 of 14: When you exit Malada with the panel, Maric will appear ahead of you (possibly inside solid stone!) and demand that you hand the panel over.
  • 9 of 14: You could do so and then try to intercept him before he can get back to Umbacano, but that's hard to accomplish since he has a horse waiting nearby.
  • 10 of 14: You could dodge around until you can find that horse and then steal it and ride away.
  • 11 of 14: But if you made a deal with S'razirr earlier, you should stay and fight with him helping you out.
  • 12 of 14: One way or another, return to Umbacano Manor and ask to see Umbacano.
  • 13 of 14: Talk to him about the High Fane and hand the panel over in order to get your reward.
  • 14 of 14: NOTE: I don't know what you're supposed to do later if you made a deal with S'razirr. I waited for him at the Tiber Septim Hotel for days and he never showed up.
