The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
Unfriendly Competition
of 29: You can start on this quest by talking to one of the merchants in the Market District about Thoronir.
of 29: There are several who feel threatened by his store's competition, but it's Jensine in her "Good as New" shop who'll get you started on the quest.
of 29: She'll ask you to check out Thoronir's shop ("The Copious Coinpurse") and try to find out where he's getting his inventory and how he can sell it so cheap.
of 29: Go to Thoronir's shop and ask him about his inventory.
of 29: Choose the least suspicious-sounding dialogue option, which would be the one that simply compliments his inventory.
of 29: He'll reveal that he has secret sources for it, and your journal will suggest following him some day after he closes up shop.
of 29: If you wait around outside his shop, you'll see him lock up and leave at around 8:20 pm.
of 29: If you follow him, he'll eventually go into the small recessed area in back of his store to meet with a guy named Agarmir.
of 29: TIP: Instead of following Thoronir around, just go around behind his store and wait near the sewer entrance until you see him and Agarmir show up nearby.
of 29: When they're both standing around near the hollowed-out tree stump, move around near them until you're frozen in place and they have their conversation.
of 29: After that's over, Agarmir is the one to follow.
of 29: He'll lead you to his house in the SW set of buildings in the Talos Plaza District.
of 29: Unfortunately, he bars his door from the inside when he's home. (Good thing everyone doesn't do this!)
of 29: TIP: As soon as the conversation between Thoronir and Agarmir is over, fast-travel to the Talos Plaza District and break into Agarmir's house. If you don't, you'll have to wait until he goes out some time the next day.
of 29: Quickly steal what you want from the main house area, then pick the lock on the basement door.
of 29: Explore the basement until you find evidence that Agarmir is a grave-robber and get a journal entry about it.
of 29: The evidence you need to prove this to Thoronir is a book called "Macabre Manifest."
of 29: Go see Thoronir in his shop after he opens it the next day.
of 29: Talk to him about his stuff being taken from the dead, and he'll tell you that Agarmir is probably robbing another tomb today.
of 29: As your journal notes, the last entry in the book is for here in the Imperial City, so you'd better check out the local grave area.
of 29: That's the "Green Emperor Way" ring that encircles the palace, so travel to the Palace District and look around.
of 29: Follow your nose (or the red quest arrow) to find that the Trentius Family Mausoleum that's near the south end of the area has been unsealed.
of 29: Prepare for battle before you enter, since the door will lock behind you and you'll have to kill Agarmir for the key.
of 29: After looting Agarmir for his magic Debaser sword (if you didn't pickpocket it off him earlier) and the mausoleum door key, look for his personalized shovel.
of 29: It's leaning against the desecrated grave of Lord Bellirus Trentius, and is the evidence you'll need to prove to Thoronir that you've stopped Agarmir once and for all.
of 29: TIP: Before you go, find Calliben Trentius' grave niche and jump up and down next to it so you can see and snatch the valuable magic mace that's hiding behind the carved figure.
of 29: To finish up this lucrative quest, report back to Thoronir to get the Weatherward Circlet and then Jensine to get your cash reward.
