The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints

The Uderfrykte Matron

  • 1 of 14: Those of you who have played Morrowind may have done a quest on Solstheim called "The Mead Hall Massacre." In it, you coordinated with a Nord woman named Svenja Snow-Song in destroying the Uderfrykte creature that attacked the Thirsk mead hall, and then in becoming Thirsk's new chieftain.
  • 2 of 14: So what happened to Svenja and the new chieftain later on? Are there any more of those horrid Uderfrykte creatures in the world? Both of those questions are about to be answered!
  • 3 of 14: Start by going to Aerin's Camp at location 28 on the Jerall and Valus Mountains map.
  • 4 of 14: Go a short way north of the camp to find the body of Andre Labouche on the ground behind some large boulders.
  • 5 of 14: On that body is a letter that refers to a creature known as the Horror of Dive Rock. Perhaps that's what they call the Uderfrykte around here.
  • 6 of 14: Your next task is to get up to Dive Rock. It's only a short distance NE of Aerin's Camp, but it's *very* steep terrain.
  • 7 of 14: If you brought a horse with you, you can pretty much ride straight up the side of the mountain to Dive Rock.
  • 8 of 14: It's fairly hard to do without a horse even once you know exactly how (see below), so you may prefer to use the PC Cheat Codes' TCL command to "fly" straight up there, or use the "player.posworld" command to teleport yourself there.
  • 9 of 14: Once you reach the small camp at Dive Rock, you can walk carefully to the end of the rock to get a message and a few map markers for your world map.
  • 10 of 14: Read the journal next to the fire to learn that Agnar the Unwavering became Thirsk's chieftain after the former chieftain (you, if you played the above-mentioned Solstheim quest) moved on to some unspecified new challenge. He then married Svenja, but she was constantly haunted by the memories of the Uderfrykte and its rampage at Thirsk, so she and Agnar eventually tracked down its mother to put an end to the beastly family line once and for all.
  • 11 of 14: Unfortunately, they found it and were killed by it, and it's now up to you to destroy the beast if you haven't already.
  • 12 of 14: If you made the difficult journey to Dive Rock without using a horse or any cheats, you probably encountered the creature on the way. Otherwise, head east a short ways and then SE down the steep slopes until you find the shimmery, ghost-like form of the Uderfrykte Matron near Agnar's body.
  • 13 of 14: As Agnar's journal notes, the matron is immune to frost damage and is particularly weak to fire damage, so use as many fire-based spells and weapons as you have against her.
  • 14 of 14: Once she's dead, you can raid her corpse for Svenja's valuable Frostwyrm Bow. (You can also find several of Svenja's bones, but they're not useful.)
