The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Hints
How can I get that gate open?
of 8: There are two unblocked paths leading away from the Oblivion gate area, one going SW and one going west.
of 8: Both can get you to where you're going eventually, but the SW one can get you there quicker.
of 8: Follow the winding path as it turns east and then back north.
of 8: Your goal is the Spindle Shrine, which is a small tower a ways SE of the main citadel (and NE of the Oblivion gate).
of 8: Ride the tower's "corpse masher" up, then ignore the nearby door that leads outside. (The bridge that used to connect this tower to the main citadel is too broken-up to use.)
of 8: Head up the tower's curvy ramp to get to its top floor, then use the big "gate control" lever.
of 8: That opens several gates leading to the citadel's central isle, including the one directly north of the Oblivion gate.
of 8: You could go back the way you came and go through that gate, or you could head north from the Spindle Shrine to find another newly opened gate that leads to the same area.
