Obsidian Hints

What can I do in the metal realm?

  • 1 of 20: Look around.  You should eventually see instructions on what you need to do.
  • 2 of 20: You need to solve an equation.
  • 3 of 20: It's written on the wall of an alcove.
  • 4 of 20: The equation reads "four" + ?? = "alpha".  ("Four" and "alpha" are symbols written in a diamond that look sort of like the number 4 and the lowercase Greek letter alpha.)
  • 5 of 20: The equation is a sort of chemical equation.
  • 6 of 20: You'll be able to experiment with how chemistry works here.  There's a lab behind the large doors at the end of the realm furthest from the entrance.
  • 7 of 20: Try playing the disks to the right of the "chemistry set" -- they'll give you a better idea of how chemicals mix.
  • 8 of 20: You want to find the chemical(s) that will solve the equation.
  • 9 of 20: If you look above the lab table, you'll find that "four" is equivalent to Y3 B4, and "alpha" is R1 Y3.
  • 10 of 20: So you want to make a chemical that turns Y3 B4 into R1 Y3.
  • 11 of 20: You can't get the Y3 at the lab, so you'll need to get it from the "four" in the equation.
  • 12 of 20: You'll want to put something in the "mystery" chemical that will replace the Y3.
  • 13 of 20: And the R1 will have to come from that mystery chemical.
  • 14 of 20: To get the Y3 to move off, you need something heavier than either the Y3 or B4.
  • 15 of 20: And you can't mix red and blue.
  • 16 of 20: That only leaves Y5.
  • 17 of 20: The mystery chemical is R1 Y5.
  • 18 of 20: Make it by putting R1 in one beaker and Y5 in the other and mixing them.
  • 19 of 20: Now put R1 Y5 in the slot in the alcove.  (R1 is in the first red test tube from the left, and Y5 is the right-most yellow test tube.)
  • 20 of 20: And press the button above the "four" on a nearby screen.  When you do, you'll start up the machinery and be ready to leave this realm.
