Paradise Hints

I dropped the hook! How do I get it back?

  • 1 of 8: This is rather unbelievably convoluted. As the major told you, the Molgrave don't go down to the forest floor unless they have to, and when they need to get something off the ground they bungie jump. Yes, really.
  • 2 of 8: If you talked to the major, he told you that the Molgrave make their bungie cords, or "elastics" as he calls them, from the juice of chewy baobab fruits. You can find a pile of them (they look like coconuts) in the same hut where the hook was; take them all.
  • 3 of 8: Take them to the hut with the machines, the one with the sign in front of it showing men of different sizes bungie jumping. (Reminds you of the dainty scales in the harem, doesn't it? Do we get the impression Sokal was on a diet when he was writing this game?) Inside, zoom in on the machine at left to see that Ann weighs two and a half baobab fruits. Um ... what?
  • 4 of 8: What's going on here is that, as the sign outside showed, the heavier you are the thicker your bungie needs to be to keep you from smacking into the ground. The fruits contain the juice that makes the Molgrave bungies; the more juice, the thicker the bungie. At Ann's weight, she needs the juice of two and a half fruits to make the right bungie.
  • 5 of 8: The machine in the middle has a baobab-fruit-sized cradle with a machete above it and a lever to the right. Put in a fruit and pull the lever to extract the juice and eject the empty fruit. Do this twice to get the juice of two fruits. Now how do we get half a fruit's worth of juice?
  • 6 of 8: Load a new fruit in, but don't pull the lever yet. To get the machete to cut the fruit in half, look for a hotspot in the middle of the fruit -- there are three hotspots, so make sure you have the middle one -- and click. Now pull the lever.
  • 7 of 8: If you have juiced exactly two and a half fruits, you can now go to the machine on the right and yank on the wheel on the right to create your bungie. Yay! (If it doesn't work, it means you used the wrong amount of fruit. Start over and be meticulous about that half fruit, and you'll have it.)
  • 8 of 8: Now go back to the trap and use the bungie on the board next to the trap. Man, computer game characters are tough; me, I'd have left my lunch on the forest floor right next to that hook.
