So what is the leopard?
Oh, I don't know. A metaphor?
We were told a couple of things about the leopard: that he was Malkia's plaything, that his mother was killed by Rodon, that he bears the sins of the king, and so on. It's probably significant that he's a *black* leopard, don't you think? I have the feeling that the story as a whole is an allegory of the end of the European colonization of Africa ... but don't quote me on that.
