Paradise Hints
Amnesia, huh?
This is the first nearly accurate depiction of amnesia I've ever seen in fiction. Amnesia isn't the comical "coconut falls on your head and you forget your name" deal it's usually shown as; in real life, the amnesiac is usually someone with a deep psychological need to not be themselves. As the daughter of a corrupt cruel despotic ruler, Ann/Malkia is clearly profoundly conflicted over her identity. Much better to lose that person and instead be a respected naturalist who genuinely loves Maurania and all its tuba-eating wildlife.
