How do I use the dark room equipment?
of 8: There's a booklet in the drawer by the curtain leading to the main room that outlines the general process in a broad sort of way. But in order to see it, you first need to turn the lights on.
of 8: In the main room, look for a switch to the right of the main door. Push it down, to the MIDDLE position, to get white light in the dark room.
of 8: After you read the booklet, you need to have the dark room, um, dark. So go back to the switch and push it to the DOWN position to get a red "safe" light. (Though in real life, the red light is only for developing prints; negatives require absolute black with no light at all.)
of 8: Now you can load the film into the developer machine, which is on the counter right next to the curtain leading back to the main room. To do this, use the film on the spool at right and push it down.
of 8: After Mister Happy-Time leaves, finish the process by clicking on the timer on the left side of the machine. Pop! Developed negatives.
of 8: Now go turn the light back to red (by pushing the switch DOWN) and print your negatives using the enlarger on the right side of the dark room.
of 8: The basic process has been a little simplified from real life, thankfully. Put the negative in the middle of the enlarger, put a piece of photographic paper on the plate underneath it, and turn the enlarger on by flipping the switch on the table top, to the right of the enlarger.
of 8: Now you need to develop the print. Put it in the little tray to the right of the enlarger, then take it out and apply the resultant photo to the pass. (You can also take your negatives from the enlarger if you want, or skip it if you'd rather not have the extra luggage.)
