Using Things
Highlight an item in inventory by right clicking on it. It will have a lighted area around it when it is "selected". You can then left click on it (or another person or thing) to bring up a menu bar with more commands.
The "Use" command on the menu should be selected when you want to use an item on Riff himself. Choose "Action" to have Riff take action (move, climb, go to, etc.) "Operate" will have Riff read a sign, open or close a cabinet, or push or pull something else. Since you're sometimes not sure which command will work, try all of them.
