Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Hints

Which type of attacks should I use against the Elite Four?

  • 1 of 7: You'll be facing 5 trainers, who'll have 5 or 6 Pokemon each. Every trainer has more or less specialized on one type. For a team suggestion (which gave me my first victory against them), click the link below. For specific help, read on.
  • 2 of 7: The first of the Elite Four is Will. He uses a L.40 Xatu, a L.41 Jynx, a L.41 Exeggutor, a L.41 Slowbro, and a L.42 Xatu. (Psychic Pokemon)

Suggestions: Dark (Umbreon), Ghost (ONLY Misdreavus), Bug (Scizor)
  • 3 of 7: The next is Koga, the old Fuchsia City Gym Leader. He uses a L.40 Ariados, a L.43 Forretress, a L.42 Muk, a L.44 Crobat, and a L.44 Venomoth. (Poison Pokemon)

    Suggestions: Psychic (Alakazam), Ground (Dugtrio)
  • 4 of 7: The next is Bruno, who was also a member of the Elite Four three years ago. He uses a L.42 Hitmontop, a L.43 Onix, a L.42 Hitmonchan, a L.40 Machamp, and a L.42 Hitmonlee. (Fighting/Rock Pokemon)

Suggestions: Psychic (Alakazam), Flying (Pidgeot, be careful as his Machamp has Rock Slide), Grass (Meganium, only for Onix), Water (Gyarados***, only for Onix)
  • 5 of 7: The next is Karen, the last member of the Elite Four. She uses a L.42 Umbreon, a L.45 Gengar, a L.42 Vileplume, a L.44 Murkrow, and a L.47 Houndoom. (Dark/Poison Pokemon, focuses on Dark-type attacks)

Suggestions: Fighting (Machamp), Bug (Scizor). You can use Psychic-type attacks against Gengar and Vileplume, but you should be very careful.
  • 6 of 7: The last is the Champion. No, it isn't your rival. It isn't even Ash. It's Lance, who helped you earlier in the game. He uses a L.44 Gyarados, 2 L.47 Dragonite, one with Thunder, the other with Blizzard, a L.47 Aerodactyl, a L.46 Charizard, and a L.50 Dragonite with Outrage. (Dragon/Flying Pokemon)

Suggestions: Ice, Electric or Dragon-attacks (preferably from Jynx or Sneasel), Psychic (Alakazam), plenty of Revives as well as Hyper/Max Potions and/or Full Restores.
  • 7 of 7: Now, your Pokemon are recorded in the Hall of Fame, and you get the credits. This means the game is completed, right? Wrong! You're only halfway. Now comes a bigger challenge: Kanto!
