Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Hints

Tips

  • Make sure you keep the Pokemon you want trained at the top of your list. That way, if you can see that the Pokemon can't make it, you can switch to a stronger one, and the Pokemon you want trained will still get experience. Later, you can also make it hold an Exp.Share.

To make a Pokemon happy, you must train it, spend as much time with as possible, and never deposit it. Keeping it at the top of the list should also help.

The one-hit KO moves (Guillotine, Horn Drill, Fissure) have an accuracy of 30%, but won't hit higher-level Pokemon. Also, Leech Seed has no effect on Grass-type Pokemon. Further details can be seen in PS2.

Generally, fight aggressively. Don't use moves such as Growl, Tail Whip, Defense Curl, etc. There is one exception to this, though: When using Rollout, use Defense Curl the turn before to double the power of Rollout. Also, it might be a good idea to use Glare, Stun Spore, Toxic, etc.

Once you've got one, place a Ditto in the day-care to be able to breed any Pokemon that can be bred. You can get one just outside the day-care.

Always heal your Pokemon before taking on a Gym Leader.

Your Pokemon can get happier not only by gaining experience, but also by getting a haircut. This can be done in Goldenrod City's Underground Tuesday-Sunday. The two brothers switch every day, with the expensive brother starting on Tuesday. I recommend that you only let the more expensive brother do it, as it will improve the mood of your Pokemon more.

When you get the chance, trade. It will increase your chances of winning in the Johto Lucky Number Show. This also applies to in-game trades.

If you are unable to use Mystery Gift (no GBC, no one who can do it with you, etc.), you can use PS2. There is a girl who'll swap gifts with you once a day.
