Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Hints

Pokemon Breeding Chart

  • Due to size, I've made a small program for this. It only requires a PC (for the techies, it's a QBasic program requiring a 286 with 175K of available conventional memory), and can be downloaded as a 57,2KB ZIP file from my homepage, http://mickeym.go.to. Unfortunately, Mac users can't use this program, unless they find a DOS emulator, or have access to a PC. Those users can e-mail me at mickeym@go.to, but I strongly recommend that you download the program. I'll reply as soon as possible, usually within 2 or 3 days. However, here are a few tips...

    1. Generally, all Pokemon of the same type are breeding compatible.
    2. The Pokemon you can't breed are Nidorina, Nidoqueen, Ditto, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Unown, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Celebi.
    3. You get the de-evolved form of the female Pokemon in the egg.
    4. You can use Ditto for the second Pokemon. You'll then get the other Pokemon's de-evolved form in the egg.
    5. Pokemon that do not have a gender can only be bred with Ditto (not including the ones mentioned in tip #2)
6 You can tell there has been made an egg by the day-care man standing outside by your Pokemon.
    7. Pokemon are very quick at creating eggs, and can do so in less than 5 minutes. If you've played for half an hour, and the man still doesn't stand there, talk to the day-care lady. If she says that Grandpa was looking for you, go outside to your Pokemon. The man will now be there. (This should only happen the first time you try to breed Pokemon, seems to be a bug in the European Gold(/Silver?) games)
    8. Pokemon won't breed if you're watching them. Go to Goldenrod and buy a few things. If you've taken enough steps, the egg should be ready.
    9. Though rarely true, a Pokemon may not be breed compatible with the same Pokemon after it evolves.

You can find the same info in Pokemon Stadium 2, but it is quicker to use my program.
