Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Hints
How do I beat the Gym Leader?
1 of 5: Falkner is the proud owner of two Flying-type Pokemon, Pidgey (L.7) and Pidgeotto (L.9).
2 of 5: Use your starting Pokemon, or if you chose Chikorita, catch a Geodude from the cave just outside of Violet City (Dark Cave). For Geodude, train it to level 11, where it will learn Rock Throw. For the others, I recommend at least level 11.
3 of 5: You don't need to worry about Geodude fainting, although Falkner has learned his Pokemon a move using a TM, Mud-slap. This is super-effective against Geodude, but it won't do him much damage (3-5HP), because of his high Defense rating.
4 of 5: After the battle, you'll get TM31, Mud-slap. Also, going to the Pokemon Center carrying no more than 5 Pokemon, will give you an Egg by talking to the scientist. It's the same Egg you delivered to Professor Elm earlier.
5 of 5: Note: Geodude will be one of your most important Pokemon! He should be your #1 priority when training. However, this doesn't mean you should neglect the others. Train the others as well, preferably as much as Geodude. In other words, if one of your Pokemon is a few levels in front of the others, it should be Geodude/Graveler/Golem.
