Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Hints

What's Pokemon Crystal?

  • Pokemon Crystal is to Gold/Silver, as Yellow is to Red/Blue, a special edition. In this game, you can select whether you want to play as a male or as a female trainer. It only affects your appearance, not the storyline. Where Yellow added support for GBC, Crystal requires GBC (or GBA).

    The Pokemon you meet are animated. Some of the colors have changed. There are new Pokedex descriptions. When you enter a different area, a sign pops up showing you where you are.

    Something very helpful is a new radio show. It is broadcast every day from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. on 10.5 in Johto, and is called "Buena's Password". Talk to Buena on the second floor of the radio tower to get a blue card, which stores your points. Tune in to her show, get the password, and go to her where you should talk to her. Give her the password for one point. You can exchange your points for different prizes by talking to the lady in green.

    Also, this is the first game that allows you to trade using a cell phone (Japan only). This is a very good thing if you have a friend that lives in another part of the country, since you can trade with him/her this way. There's no difference in which Pokemon you can choose to start with. And, as you may have heard, rumors say that you can catch Celebi, but that can only be done in the Japanese version.
