Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal Hints
How do I beat the Gym Leader?
1 of 5: Morty will use 4 Ghost-type Pokemon, L.21 Gastly, L.21 Haunter, L.25 Gengar, and L.23 Haunter.
2 of 5: He has taught his Pokemon the move Curse, which will cut Speed to raise Attack and Defense. However, the move works differently for Ghost-types. The Pokemon will instead cut HP by the half of the maximum, and put a Curse on the opponent Pokemon. Curse will now take some HP from the Pokemon if it does not knock out the opponent. Curse will be in effect until the end of the battle or the Pokemon is retreated.
3 of 5: You should have evolved Geodude by now. Use Magnitude on the Ghosts. If you get cursed, switch Pokemon, unless you know you can make it (e.g., the Pokemon using Curse is the last).
4 of 5: If Graveler faints, send in the strongest Pokemon you have, but do NOT use any Normal-type attacks, as they will have no effect. A good choice would be Pidgeotto, as Ghost-type attacks have no effect on Normal-type Pokemon. That way, you can limit your losses by using no Fighting and Normal-type moves.
5 of 5: Once you beat Morty, you'll get the TM30, which contains the powerful Ghost-type move Shadow Ball.
