Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Hints

Getting Past Traps

  • Prince of Persia: Warrior Within has tons of traps that you'll have to get by in order to progress through the game.  The first time you come across a new type of trap, stand back and watch it, memorizing the pattern of its movement.  Timing is everything when navigating your way through traps.  Wait until the path is open (or just about to be open), then run, jump, and roll your way through.

Spiked Pillars -- Pillars covered with curved blades.  They'll usually be suspended horizontally over your path, moving up and down, or standing vertically moving left and right.  Watch their movements carefully and run past them as soon as there's an opening.  If you're on a ledge, stand up/drop down off of it to avoid the blade.

Rotating Blades -- Blades sticking out of rotating pedestals.  They'll turn in a set pattern and speed.  Sometimes they have one blade, sometimes two.  Watch their movements carefully and run past them as the blade spins in the direction you're running.  You can roll under the blade if you need to.

Circular Blades -- Circular blades sticking out of the wall.  They'll move up and down or left and right in a set pattern and speed.  Watch their movements carefully and run past them when there's an opening.  If you're on a ledge, stand up/drop down off of it to avoid the blade.

Floor Spikes -- Groups of spikes that come out from the ground when you're stepping on them.  You'll know floor spikes can rise out of the ground when the ground has a grid of black holes on a metal surface.  A puff of steam will rise out of the ground a split second before the spikes shoot upward, so if you see the steam, get out of the way as fast as possible.  In general, just try to keep running while on a surface which spikes rise from.  If you keep moving, you should be able to outrun the mechanism.

Slicing Blades -- Long, curved blades that stick out of a wall, moving swiftly down a hallway, cutting down anything that gets in its way.  They'll generally extend from the wall rather far away from you and speed towards you.  The best way to avoid them is to roll underneath as they pass.  After doing so, they may reemerge at the end of the hallway, so be prepared to duck and roll again.

Moving Blocks -- Long, rectangular blocks that quickly extend out from the wall and then retract back in.  These blocks are sometimes used as a way to progress in a room, but they also present a deadly obstacle -- if you're between the block as it extends and a wall, you'll be crushed and killed instantly.  Wait for the block to extend fully, then run past it as it slowly retracts back into the wall.  Note that if you're standing on the block as it retracts all the way in the wall, you'll fall off of it and be in its path as it extends back out.
