The Orange Box: Portal Hints
Floor-Portal Routine
1 of 5: Start by firing an orange portal onto the floor at your destination.
2 of 5: Then look down and put a blue portal onto the floor directly underneath yourself so you'll immediately fall into it and come out of the orange portal.
3 of 5: Or if you can't do that, put the blue portal on the floor as close to yourself as possible, then run-jump into it.
4 of 5: As soon as you come up out of the orange portal, relocate it to another spot (anywhere will do) before falling back into it. If you can't, try again when you come back up out of the orange portal again.
5 of 5: The idea is that after relocating the orange portal, you'll land on the floor at your destination without adding any to your step count.
