The Orange Box: Portal Hints

So how do I get across this gap?

  • 1 of 10: Via a very difficult portal-flinging maneuver.
  • 2 of 10: While standing on the tiny bit of concrete flooring you have, look up and put an orange portal at the very top of the nearby concrete wall, on the second tile from the right.
  • 3 of 10: Then back up into the doorway and put the blue portal on the floor, right on top of the white warning tile.
  • 4 of 10: While looking down at the blue portal, move slowly forward to where you fall through it.
  • 5 of 10: Immediately start leaning on the "Move backward" key so that you'll end up landing in the blue portal again instead of in the toxic sludge.
  • 6 of 10: That's not too hard to do, and it will definitely get you flung over to the other side of the gap, but there's a *huge* catch.
  • 7 of 10: Once you get over to the other side, there will be no way to get up onto the nearby upper ledge.
  • 8 of 10: In order to have any hope of ever getting up there, you have to fling a portal onto the ledge's flooring as you're flying across the hallway gap.
  • 9 of 10: Due to the speed at which you're flung across, and the fact that you won't be facing toward the ledge by default, this is the most insanely hard maneuver to pull off yet.
  • 10 of 10: Try quickly twisting your view to the right after you fall through the blue portal the second time. Even if you can't see the ledge, or there isn't time to register it, try firing a blue portal just in case you get lucky. You eventually should after enough tries.
