The Orange Box: Portal Hints
What's the least portal-consumptive way to get to the button ledge?
1 of 15: To start with, crouch-walk slowly along the left wall and toward the big toxic hallway gap.
2 of 15: When you reach the edge of the floor, look up and to the right.
3 of 15: Near the back right corner of the hallway ceiling, you should be able to see a tiny sliver of the ceiling that's over the first ledge you need to get to.
4 of 15: Carefully fire a blue portal so that it forms on the ledge's ceiling.
5 of 15: As for the orange portal, don't just put it in a nearby convenient wall. If you do, you won't be able to reuse it later on.
6 of 15: Look down into the toxic hallway gap and place the orange portal in the middle of the lowest part of the left wall.
7 of 15: That looks deadly, but you can jump straight down at the portal and then fall through it without touching the water.
8 of 15: The hard part is falling onto the ledge that your blue portal is (barely) over instead of missing it.
9 of 15: The only way to make it is to lean on the appropriate movement key as you fall toward the ledge. "Move right" is probably the key you need, but try others if it fails.
10 of 15: After you land on the two-dot ledge, look up and place the blue portal on the ceiling above the three-dot ledge.
11 of 15: Drop back down to the hallway below, then use your original orange portal the same way you did before to drop down onto the three-dot ledge. (It'll even be easier, since you probably won't have to lean on a direction key as you fall.)
12 of 15: Move to where you can see the extended wall section that's above the door's ledge, then relocate your orange portal onto its right side.
13 of 15: Drop down to the small un-numbered ledge that's nearby, then open a blue portal in the floor near the ledge's top left corner. (Top left as you stand on the ledge and face the button ledge.)
14 of 15: Gently drop through the blue portal to get onto the door's ledge.
15 of 15: Then drop off of it so that you fall into the blue portal again, which will get you flung over to the button ledge.
