Portal 2 Hints

How can I get a redirection cube past the force field?

  • 1 of 8: Since the force field will destroy any cube you try to carry through it, you're clearly going to have to use portals.
  • 2 of 8: Looking around, you'll see that there are portal-friendly wall sections on both sides of the force field.
  • 3 of 8: However, you can't fire portals through the force field, and moving through it will close any portals that are open. So putting a blue portal on one wall, going through the force field, and putting an orange portal on another wall, for instance, won't work. The blue portal will disappear the moment you touch the force field.
  • 4 of 8: Examine the wall that divides the chamber into two sections carefully. The force field doesn't go all the way down it.
  • 5 of 8: At one end, the wall has a round hole in it that isn't force-fielded.
  • 6 of 8: You can't push a redirection cube through that hole, but you can fire portals through it.
  • 7 of 8: So put a blue portal on a wall section in the chamber half that you're in, then fire an orange portal through the round hole so that it hits a portal-friendly wall section in the other half of the chamber. (This can be done from either side of the force field, but it's easier to do it from the side with the laser beam and button pedestal.)
  • 8 of 8: Use the pedestal to summon a redirection cube if you haven't already, then carry it through your portals to get it safely past the force field.
