Portal 2 Hints

How can I lower the second raised barrier?

  • 1 of 10: To discover it, use the main floor's faith plate after lowering the first raised barrier.
  • 2 of 10: Notice that the second barrier has a receptacle right next to it, but there's no laser beam going into it. Apparently, this barrier is raised when its receptacle isn't getting a beam, and lowered when it is.
  • 3 of 10: Since there's only one laser beam in the whole chamber, start looking around for a way to redirect it to this receptacle.
  • 4 of 10: That's going to require both portals and a redirection cube.
  • 5 of 10: To get a redirection cube, use the button pedestal that's near the second barrier. The cube will bounce right on up there with you.
  • 6 of 10: Pick it up and drop back down to where you can take the cube over to the laser beam.
  • 7 of 10: Move the storage cube out of the beam, then replace it with the redirection cube.
  • 8 of 10: Now you need to get portals set up so that the beam will hit the second barrier's receptacle.
  • 9 of 10: Once both barriers are down, you can drop to the main floor and use its faith plate to get tossed all the way to the exit door. Don't forget to bring the storage cube along so you can set it on the door-opening button.
  • 10 of 10: NOTE: You can allegedly get the Overclocker achievement by finishing this chamber in 70 seconds or less. I never bother with achievements that require rushing through an area, but if you want to go for it, you'll need to get very familiar with the chamber's solution, then optimize your moves.
