Portal 2 Hints

How can I get all the beams redirected with only two redirection cubes?

  • 1 of 14: You'll probably have to use portals to redirect one of the lasers, and the two cubes to redirect the other two.
  • 2 of 14: It'll be kind of tricky because the three receptacles are all in a row around a corner.
  • 3 of 14: Experimenting with the two cubes you're given, you'll soon realize that the only way to get all three laser beams into receptacles is to redirect them all through a portal.
  • 4 of 14: Start by putting an orange portal on the side of the pillar that's facing the central receptacle.
  • 5 of 14: Next, figure out where the best spot is to put your blue portal so that you can redirect all three beams through it and into the receptacles.
  • 6 of 14: If you move both of the redirection cubes out of the way so that no lasers are being redirected, you'll see that two of the beams are hitting portal-friendly surfaces.
  • 7 of 14: Since you only have two redirection cubes, it follows that one of the three lasers must go through the blue portal and into a receptacle without the aid of a cube.
  • 8 of 14: Therefore, there are only two possible spots for the blue portal -- the two spots where un-redirected lasers hit portal-friendly surfaces.
  • 9 of 14: Try them both to see which one will allow you to use the cubes to redirect the other two lasers into receptacles.
  • 10 of 14: If you try putting the blue portal on the wall that's opposite the horizontal laser emitter that's not on the extended wall section, you'll find that you can't redirect the beam from the ceiling's emitter into an unused receptacle. The angles just won't work.
  • 11 of 14: So put the blue portal on the wall that the beam from the other horizontal emitter (the one on the extended wall section) is hitting.
  • 12 of 14: Checking the receptacles, you'll see that beam going into the leftmost one.
  • 13 of 14: Now redirect the other two beams through the blue portal and into the other receptacles using the cubes.
  • 14 of 14: You should find it possible to redirect the vertical laser beam into the rightmost receptacle, and the other horizontal laser beam into the center receptacle.
