Post Mortem Hints

  • 1 of 3: As you're probably aware, Post Mortem is a fairly unique adventure game in that it offers branching paths based on how you respond to certain questions.  The paths converge when you switch to a new character, at which point the game unfolds linearly until the very end of the game.  I've structured these hints to reflect these paths, with hints for each possible path when appropriate.  If you wish to see all the possible paths, you may wish to save your game frequently and use new save-game slots for each save, rather than reusing the same slot.
  • 2 of 3: An important offshoot off the way the game is structured is that (unlike many adventure games), it's usually not necessary, and often undesirable, to exhaust every possible conversation option.  Some options are even mutually exclusive -- you must say one thing or the other but can't choose both.  Don't worry too much... nothing you can do will prevent you from completing the game.  It is possible, however, to say things that would make the game play out one way, then say other things that undo the paths you just chose.  Just don't say anything that sounds unnatural, and you should be okay.  For instance, if you're claiming to be a private investigator to one person, stick with it in future conversations.
  • 3 of 3: If you're ever stuck, look through all of MacPherson's notes on the documents he collects, the people he meets, and the conversations he has.  Not only will this reveal hints on certain puzzles, it's sometimes required in order to progress in the game.  If you're still stuck, try looking up your problem in these hints.  Good luck!
