Combat Tips
of 7: As in most of these kinds of games, one of the most important combat tips is to use strafing and cover to your advantage when fighting anything that can shoot back at you. Also, the old retreat-and-fire technique is frequently handy, especially with enemies who rush you rather than taking up a position near cover -- shoot them while retreating back through hallways and unlocked doors.
of 7: Another particularly important tip is to utilize any other marines in your area to your best advantage. One of the ways to do this is to return to where you know a medic or tech is whenever you need your health or armor restored.
of 7: If some marines are stationed in your area, lead all nearby Strogg to their position so the marines can shoot them down for you. If there are marines following you, stay behind cover as much as you can and let them do the fighting for you. However, they can be killed, and this sometimes causes an instant objective failure (which is as bad as being killed yourself). Also, if you don't keep your medics and techs alive, they can't restore your health and armor. (So if you have some of them along, be bold in protecting them -- as long as you and they survive, they can take you back to full health and armor.)
of 7: For most creatures, head shots do double damage. This isn't much of a factor when you're firing off a rocket or DMG blast, but it can be very useful when using the shotgun or bullet-firing weapons. Shoot 'em in the head!
of 7: With creatures that take cover and don't advance on you (or are stuck in one area or on one floor and can't charge you), it's sometimes possible to stand to where you can shoot them but they can't shoot you (because they keep hitting some obstruction with their fire). In these cases, use the blaster to take them down in order to conserve ammo.
of 7: Many of the Strogg have strong religious objections to following you through doors, so you can retreat through a door to get a breather and then snipe at the Strogg through the door by approaching it so it'll open, ripping off a quick shot or two, and dodging back through the door for cover. This is particularly useful with the Strogg tactical assault teams you'll be meeting far too frequently later in the game.
of 7: Many of the barrels in the game will explode when damaged. You can use them to help injure enemies by shooting the barrels when enemies are next to them. On the other hand, enemies can use the same tactic against you, so it might be wise to shoot exploding barrels from a safe distance before going past their location.
