Quake 4 Hints
General Tips
1 of 5: One of the most commonly used strategies for this kind of game is to quickly and recklessly run through a new, unexplored area right after saving your game, and then restore your save and approach the same area with your new knowledge of its layout and where all the enemies are hiding. This allows you to minimize injuries and ammo consumption while clearing out the area (or just running through it if that turns out to work).
2 of 5: You'll often be expected to use interactive panels to open doors, move bridges into place, etc. A panel will register as interactive when you stand close to it and point at it, but most panels require you to press a certain spot -- you can't just click anywhere on the panel and expect it to work. Move the little cursor around the panel until you find a clickable button of some sort. (Most of them are big, but some are very small).
3 of 5: When you can't get through a door and there aren't any interactive panels around, always look for an alternative route nearby, including other doors, broken windows, utility ladders, small holes and crawlways, etc. Note that many doors are unlocked at some point by Strogg who come through them from the other side, and many others will unlock after you kill every enemy in the area.
4 of 5: There are often caches of supplies (health kits, armor, weapons, ammo, etc.) in little side areas and hidden alcoves that you don't have to enter in order to make it through the level. Always check under stairs and walkways, and in other dark and crouch-only areas for bonus items.
5 of 5: When you're ready to finish a level and move on to the next one, consider going back through the current level (or parts of it) to pick up any spare health, armor, and ammo that you didn't need when you passed by it before. You can start the next level in much better shape if you do.
